Algonquin Park Blog

Of maple glue & deer

A wonderful day on the Edge of Algonquin Park today. Sunny and warming up. Lost a batch of syrup today. Not sure what happened, I left a batch that was perhaps an hour from being ready so that I could get on the road. When I came home it was a gluey mess. I’ve never had that happen before. It must have gotten contaminated somehow. Anyway, what do you do with two gallons of unfinished, gluey syrup anyway? Might have to go for a long walk and dig a hole and bury it so we don’t attract wild animals. . . .

Speaking of which, I saw five deer just down the road yesterday. It’s that time of the year when deer and moose are regularly sighted on the roads, particularly in the early dawn and twilight hours. I’ll try to catch a picture over the next few weeks to share with the blog.
