Today I’m going to revisit sites where we saw turtles laying their eggs about 60 days ago. Although Tim and I found some snapping turtle nests that were ravaged by racoons, I’m hopeful we’ll see signs of life at one or more of the sights. On very memorable canoe trip in Algonquin Park a few years back, we saw dozens of tiny turtles heading for the lake after crawling out of their beach nest buried in the sand. It is interesting that the sex of turtles is highly weather dependent. With hot weather more females are produced. With cooler temps (like this year) more of the offspring are male.
