algonquin's renowned ecology lodge has an earth roofThe Edge is one of Canada's model ecotourism destinations at Algonquin Park.  The Edge is clean, green and dedicated to sustainability.  Located on the edge of Algonquin Provincial Park, one of the oldest and largest canoe parks in North America, the landscape affords us many opportunities.   Ecotourism principles and practices which respect the land ensure long term sustainability.

Our solar-powered facility is a natural safe place for guests to enjoy the comforts of home.

Whenever possible, The Edge uses appropriate technologies and materials to minimize our impact.  We compost organic material, recycle and generate electrical power using solar energy.  We even grow some of our own food for Algonquin Park canoe trips and retreats in our veggie gardens.

The Edge, premier Algonquin Park Canoe Trips with an environmental approach:

Our environmentally-friendly off-the-grid facility has gained international recognition for teaching and demonstrating ecological principles of design. In addition, our environmental ethics and no-trace camping practices leave the areas we travel through in the same or better condition than before we arrived.   We even sort our waste so that plastics and paper are recycled, and food waste is composted upon return from our Algonquin Park canoe trip adventures.

Join us at the Edge of Algonquin Park, we'll escort you into the park in style,

We believe individuals, communities and the earth are worth:

bullet maintaining the lowest guide to guest ration in the industry (usually 1:4), so  you can be confident you are in the care of qualified, enthusiastic friendly faces who know Algonquin Park
bullet fairly compensating Algonquin Park canoe trip adventure retreat facilitators with experience, passion, knowledge and teaching skills to ensure each trip is a memorable one.
bullet contributing to the ongoing conservation of local natural areas.
bullet using sustainable environmentally friendly technologies and practices of operation.

According to the International Ecotourism Society the following questions will help you assess whether or not the destination you are considering is a true ecotourism destination.

Ask questions such as:
· Does the company employ trained naturalists?
· Does it show a commitment to local conservation?
· Does its business directly benefit local people?
· Is there a waste-management policy in place?
· Does the company monitor the number of visits to fragile environments?

Give us a call and we'll share how a visit to the Edge promotes the health of our children, the environment, and our economy and respects the fragile Algonquin Park environment.
