Wilderness First Aid Emergency Training for Outdoor Professionals

June 22-25, 2007

Wilderness Medical Associates introduce you to backcountry medicine and wilderness medical protocols on the Edge of Algonquin Park at Algonquin Interior Access #1 . Specifically designed for the unique demands of backcountry hiking and canoeing in Northern Ontario and Algonquin Park, participants will learn how to treat injuries when you are hours or days from a hospital. Also, you will learn how to give care in extreme environments of cold, heat, or altitude. This course focuses on working with limited equipment and improvising.

lakefront classroom learning wilderness first aid on the edge of Ontario's Algonquin ParkApproximately nine hours (not including meals) will be spent in class each day (weather depending we often spend time learning wilderness medicine at the lakefront - even some of the classroom content). We also go outdoors practicing scenarios of realistic emergency situations one might encounter on a canoe trip in Algonquin Park or on backcountry hiking trips. Participants must dress appropriately for the weather, rain, snow, or shine. Two hours or more will be devoted to homework each evening. Successful course participants will receive certification from Wilderness Medical Associates, the most widely respected wilderness medical training organization in the world.
